John Espina

John Espina is the President and founder of TrueBlue Consulting, LLC, a licensed Private Investigations and Security consulting company located in Long Island, NY. John brings with him a unique background, starting in public service in 1985 as a Paraprofessional for the NYC Board of Education and then as a Bilingual Math Teacher in the Bronx prior to joining the Nassau County Police Department in 1994. After serving 11 years in uniform, John was promoted to Detective in 2005 where he was assigned to the Third Squad. He established himself as a tenacious criminal investigator, investigating thousands of cases over the years and earning him countless of hours of courtroom testimony. Given this experience and hard work ethic, he eventually earned his assignment to Nassau County’s Homicide Squad. In 2014, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Internal Affairs Bureau where he investigated complaints against sworn and non-sworn members of the Department. John eventually was reassigned to the First Squad where he supervised a team of detectives who investigated thousands of criminal cases. John eventually retired as a Detective Sergeant and as a member of the Department’s Hostage Negotiation Team.
In 2018, after retiring from over 32 years of combined public service, John began working in private industry as a Field Investigator for GEICO in their Special Investigations Unit. Shortly thereafter, John seized the opportunity to become the Director of Campus Security at New York Institute of Technology for their Long Island Campuses. Just prior to the pandemic, John was given the responsibility to oversee NYIT’s NYC Campus, and was instrumental in overseeing the institution’s Covid-19 re-opening plans. While at NYIT, John acted as their liaison to the respective law enforcement communities, oversaw and managed over a 2-million-dollar budget for a third-party security vendor, investigated student disciplinary incidents, oversaw various projects such as radio repeater and radio communications upgrade, conducted access control research, supported various student events across campus, and collaborated with various stakeholders within and outside of the NYIT community.
In 2020, John provided Police Technical Advice on a short IMDb film, called “In This, Our Time”. John’s tenure at NYIT ended in September 2021, while business in insurance investigations and school district residency investigations began to develop. In September of 2021, John began serving on the Advisory Board of EPIC ESG, an international renewable energy company, as their Director of Global Security. In 2022, John also began to consult on a per diem basis as a Police Technical Advisor on the set of the hit TV series “Law & Order – Organized Crime”.
Given this extensive background, John has developed into a solutions-oriented executive, committed to applying cross-functional management expertise, technical knowledge and common-sense intelligence to meet and exceed education and business objectives. John has a strong desire and ability to build productive working relationships at all contact levels by combining a keen work ethic, excellent judgment and excellent communication skills. He has a proven track record of having the ability to analyze stakeholder needs, demands and stresses, and work collaboratively at and across different organizational levels to deliver innovative and feasible solutions.
John is fluent in Spanish and earned his BS in Computing & Management from Herbert H. Lehman College C.U.N.Y. He is consistently seeking training and certifications to keep up with industry standards.
